February 9th, 2011Dave Matthews Band Is Currently On Their Last Summer Tour Before They Take A Year Off in 2011
January 23rd, 2011Dave Matthews Band is currently on their last Summer Tour before they take a year off in 2011. The 2010 US Summer Tour has seen a lot of old songs coming back like ‘Busted Stuff’, ‘Digging a Ditch’, ‘So Right’, and ‘Cry Freedom’. They also played ‘Break For It’, a new song which had been eagerly anticipated by hardcore fans. It might have had something to do with the band’s disappointing decision not to tour in 2011 or the heavy-handed police and security presence at Saratoga Performing Arts Center, but Friday night’s performance by the Dave Matthews Band started out slow and dragged for the first 90 minutes. Fortunately, things turned around for an energetic final hour. DMB recently announced that they will take a break from their relentless touring schedule in 2011, so this night’s kick-off gig was an opportunity for the band to dust off songs they hadn’t played in years. Matthews is an ideal standard bearer for his band, a font of unassuming dynamism that matches up well with the group’s trademark meshing of mainstream and jam band proclivities. In a live setting the formula comes to particular life, as when Matthews and his six cohorts dove into the roomy sway of the opener “JTR.” The current touring configuration of the band features heavy doses of Tim Reynolds on electric guitar, lines that were etched sharply across the bobbing rock groove of “Seven.” The rocking star Dave Matthews along with his eponymous band continue to embrace their unofficial title as music’s boys of summer. Keeping its annual tradition alive, DMB has revealed a 49-date national routing that will run from spring through late summer. This year’s tour launches with a May 28-29 stand at Comcast Theatre in Hartford, CT, and concludes nearly four months later on September 15 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, MN. This year’s tour will continue to promote the June 2009 release “Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King.” The album, marking DMB’s seventh studio record, peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and quickly racked up Platinum-level sales nationally. More Over to the opening engagement, the band’s calendar includes numerous other multiple-night runs. Some of the highlights include June 7-8 at Comcast Center in Mansfield, MA; July 3-4 at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in Troy, NY; July 16-17 at Citi Field in New York, NY; and September 3-5 at Gorge Amphitheatre in Quincy, WA. A Bonnaroo highlight for Dave Matthews, another festival veteran musician, was when he met Bob Dylan. Matthews says, “We played right after Dylan played and he said, ‘I didn’t play ‘Watchtower’ because I thought you would play it.’ That was a high point for me. I suppose everybody is a crazy fan of Dylan so to have him acknowledge my existence in any way was kind of sweet.” Besides Bonnaroo, the DMB will also play the Hullabal.OU Music Festival on July 25 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky., and the Mile High Music Festival on Aug. 15 in Commerce City, Colo. The group is currently scheduled to wrap the tour on Sept. 15 in St. Paul, Minn. Get your Cheap Dave Matthews Band Tickets
