Universal Color

January 28th, 2011

Universal Color is a supernova of color! This piece is a magnificent amalgamation of distinctive and complimentary colors and shifting, charismatic lines that explode from the center of canvas and radiate outward to the very edges of the world that is created in this innovative and inspiring original abstract canvas. There are various lines layered across the set of three canvases that makes up this expansive painting. There are erratic, sweeping lines that curve and dance and double over themselves as well as sweeping lines of light gracing the backdrop. This space age painting will definitely jazz up a bland room with it’s deep dramatic colors and the amazingly visceral feeling of movement that is found in every square inch of the piece. There is no central figure in this painting which contrasts nearly everything else going on throughout the canvas. The color contrast draws the eye to every part of the piece and makes it feel as if every other shape and line in this painting is moving outward. The painting adds a spacey ambiance by the deep colors of the backdrop and the beams of light that shoot across the background, drawing attention to the most important components of the piece.

This painting is depicted on a series of three uniform canvases that the lines and subjects continuously bridge across. The decision to produce this painting in a set of three pieces emphasizes the powerful sense of movement in the painting, as the lines jump across wall spaces and create a bridge between canvases seamlessly. The three panel design of this piece suits the material of the painting quite well and creates added interest and innovation to an already extremely original painting. This piece will, without a doubt add a richness and intensity to any room in which it is hung. If you are interested in finding more pieces like Universal Color, begin by looking in our Modern Canvas section, perhaps with Calm Karma that shares many things in common with Universal Color such as brilliant color and movement.

Reading Difficult Literary Works: The Southeast Asian Context

January 27th, 2011

Difficult literary texts have always been the ones that remain almost permanently fixed on the shelves, whether at bookstores, libraries, or at homes. This is true everywhere all over the world but in many places of Southeast Asia, they don’t even get the chance to climb up the shelves to scare away the never-would-be readers. The enigma behind this is somewhat interesting and even educational.

Some literary works are indeed difficult, to say the least. A work like James Joyce’s Finnegans Wake can be taken as a good example. Samuel Becket, who wrote down most it for Joyce and also translated it into French, once said that it was never meant to be understood. I rest my case concerning that brilliant piece of art work. But some other works, like Ulysses, if we are to go back to Mr. Joyce’s works again, is hardy as unreadable as most people claim it to be. It is definitely not a light read, but not also as unearthly as many claim it to be. And what struck me most is, around eight out of ten persons living in the Southeast Asians countries where I have lived and talked with and who say that they don’t read it because it is unreadable, had never even touched or worse, seen a copy of it.

I would like to attempt dividing the reluctant readers into two groups. In the first group are those who I take as being swept away by the often exaggerated rumors that surround those works. The works that I’m referring to are like the ‘Ulysses’, Thomas Mann’s Magic Mountain, Thomas Pynchon’s Gravity Rainbow, the plays of Samuel Beckett, and the poetical works like that of Wallace Stevens. These works were never anything close to easy reads. They are for me mountains to climb, and somewhere up there, there are rewarding peaks waiting for the earnest readers. They do demand great efforts but they are certainly not unreadable. Of course for those who are looking for a light read, these are definitely not what they are looking for, but as lovers of literature, they will also be definitely missing a lot.

The other group is those who are constantly in pursuit of information in a never ending strife to gain control in a world where they had little say in it. For people like them, familiarity is the key to certainty which somewhat relieves them from the doubts that follow them wherever they go. Acquiring as much information as they can increases their space of familiarity which they are most obsessed with. For those type of people, flirtations that difficult literature brings is hard for them to entertain as they lost their center and the familiarities that kept them safe and away from uncharted territories. The strange and somewhat amusing irony is that many of those difficult to read literary works were addressed to and were also a kind of response against that sort of centering. For most artists and thinkers today, the finding of a center is not unlike a wild goose chase as a complete picture or meaning of something can never be obtained as whatever that was obtained was only a trace, a partial truth.

A few weeks ago I read a poem by John Ashbery to one of my young students. After having read it, I asked her what she thought about the poems. She looked at me with a satisfied smile and said, “I don’t understand everything it says but it was so beautiful!” Again I rest my case.

Modern African Women

January 27th, 2011

This is truly a passionate original painting that shadows life and character. This painting focuses on three dancing figures in the center of each panel that are painted in black. The subjects of African women are given jewlery highlighted by light colors and the use of vibrant colors such as red for their garments. The muted background makes the subjects stand out, yet it gives the essence of being outside from the use of light blues and natural greens and browns. These three figures are captured in a moment of ecstatic movement. The two outside figures are facing the center subject as if watching her, and are mirroring each other actions. The center figure has a different stance and is further emphasized by the object in her hands. This is a very modern piece of artwork that is elegant and beautiful. The bold subjects are unique and versatile giving the painting depth. The artists choice of colors really accents the painting and gives it just the touch it needs to bring out the subjects and create an eye-catching painting.

The Modern African Women depicted in this piece are spread out over three separate canvases that , while they are homogeneous in shape, vary in color and depict the movement of the subjects in a way that is unusual and moving. The three canvases are distinct enough to stand on their own as pieces of art, but together they create an elegant, moving and organic series. The three canvas design allows for a great many possibilities to display this unique piece- the separate pieces can be reorganized, and hung in a variety of shapes, a horizontal line or a triangular clusters. The pieces can even be separated and hung throughout a home or office. To view a great many more original canvas paintings that share some of the bold and distinct qualities of this one, try exploring our Landscape Canvas gallery. One piece that in particular that might appeal to you if you enjoy the organic and diverse shapes and bold colors of Diamond Lillies is Lonely Summer, a beautiful painting that will strike similar chords in any art lover.

The Best Placement For Your Home Theater Speaker

January 26th, 2011

Major movie houses, theatres, home entertainment environments, gaming, arcade and other public and in-house presentation areas today use surround sound systems for enhanced audio entertainment. Surround sound is becoming more and more popular every day. It gives you a more realistic effect of the movies. But apart from theater halls, it is available for your music system too. How? It’s simple. You can have this effect with the help of surround sound speakers. To know more about surround sound, we first need to understand how a surround sound speaker works. The speakers are located in various positions of the room. They receive multiple audio channels. The whole program is located in one source. To create surround sound, you can go any one of several different directions. The simplest and probably the oldest way would be to set up a bunch of speakers surrounding the audience, so that the sound comes in to the listeners from all over, from the different directions.

And another way to create surround sound is with ambisonics where you reconstruct the sound at a central point. Surround sound speaker have lots of benefits. Listening to music or viewing a cinema becomes very delicious because of this kind of speaker. It makes the movie and music more realistic. In short, this speaker is actually giving a new dimension to the new age sound. The first thing you need to understand is that there are several different types of surround sound systems. The industry standard and most common is the 5.1 channel surround sound system. The more speakers you have, the greater sound you will enjoy, however, the better the quality of your speakers, the better quality your sound will have. In other words don’t go with lower quality speakers in the beginning in order to have more speakers, as you will be shooting the quality of sound you can experience in the foot When it comes to the placement of the additional speakers if you upgrade to a 6.1 channel surround sound system you will move the speakers currently in the left and right rear to the left and right side and place the new speaker in the center back. If you then upgrade to the 7.1 channel surround sound system you will move the speaker that is in the center to the rear left and place the new speaker to the rear right. Hopefully the sections above have contributed to your understanding of surround sound systems. Share your new understanding about surround sound system with others.

January 26th, 2011

The rocking star Eminem is back in the limelight after the release of his second album, since returning from a three-year hiatus, Recovery, on Monday. There is no mystery that two of the biggest music releases of the season are hitting stores within a week of one another. Last Tuesday saw the release of Thank Me Later, the eagerly-anticipated debut from the Canadian actor-turned-buzzed-about-MC Drake. This week sees the arrival of Eminem’s latest album Recovery, the back-to-basics retort to his 2009 album Relapse. Right Away the Hip-hop is on a high which is why talk show bookers have embraced a form that normally gets overlooked in late-night circles unless you are watching Jimmy Fallon. This week’s on Friday June 25th biggest highlight is on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” as he will welcome both Eminem and Jay-Z on. The both hottest stars will provide a possible preview to their tag-team concerts coming up at the end of the summer. This is sure to be a killer evening, while his career as a battle rapper was cut short because of his huge success as a recording artist, Detroit MC Eminem cut his teeth on the battle circuit, and now he’s giving back.

The superstar Eminem has announced that he is partnering with Red Bull to launch ‘Red Bull EmSee: The Road to 8 Mile,’ a national MC competition starting off June 21 at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC. He has performed an electrifying set at Activision’s E3 party on Monday night, crushing any doubts that he is truly back in the game after his long hiatus. The Detroit MC headlined a massive bill that included Usher, Will.I.Am, N.E.R.D., Jane’s Addiction, Chris Cornell, David Guetta, Deadmau5 and DJ Z-Trip. Em’s set kicked off with his first surprise of the night at the Staples Center, with Travis Barker jumping behind the drums for an acrobatic drum solo. The rocking star Em joined him moments later flanked by D12′s Denaun Porter, taking the stage just before midnight. He was decked out in a black jacket, black jeans and a silver crucifix hanging around his neck. Eminem will most certainly be releasing his “Recovery” album soon. The album will however be void of one track which is a song aimed at other current hip-hop immortals Kanye West and Little Wayne. The track is mentioned, though, in a song on the album called “Talkin 2 Myself” in which he mentions almost releasing the diss.

Recently the rocking star Eminem explains his intentions and why he selected to not release the track. He has shared that during the worst of his drug addiction, in a time where he was remaining stagnant and not making music that he got jealous of the other two rappers being in the limelight. The line up of the upcoming 2010 BET Awards a list of acclaimed musicians are added. These newly-announced performers are including Eminem Alicia Keys, Usher and T-Pain and they are set to join previously-confirmed musical guests such as T.I. and Drake.
